“Thank you for your generous gift.”
“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” — Barbara De Angelis

Congratulations! You find yourself in the enviable position of thanking someone for giving you (or something you care about) money. That’s pretty cool.

Start Here

  • Be timely. I know you’re super busy, but thanking someone quickly after their gift or favor is critical to making that person feel appreciated. Research shows that a personal thank you received within 48 hours increases the likelihood of donors giving again by 60 to 70 percent.
  • Be personal. Appreciation is most meaningful when given personally, so if you can deliver in person, over Zoom, or by phone, that’s great.
  • Write it and send it. But even if you express your gratitude verbally, you still need to send along something written. Preferably in a handwritten note, but an email will work in a pinch too.

Talking Points

  • Thank you very much for your generous gift to <nonprofit/cause>. We know there are so many needs and only so many resources, so we’re glad you’ve chosen our cause to support.
  • <Provide information about how you will use the donation and who will benefit. Specific details are best.>
  • I look forward to telling you about the specific impact your donation had when we next catch up.
