  • Disappointment is a totally normal human experience and deserves its own set of talking points.
  • Use this guide to help you express your disappointment to someone so that you can hopefully, find some resolution.

Talking Points

  • Thank you for taking the time to talk to me about this.
  • I wanted to let you know how I’m feeling. I’m hurt by what happened because <clearly articulate the MAIN point you are hurt by>
  • When you <what they did/didn’t do>, it hurt my feelings.
  • It made me feel really uncomfortable. It made me not feel seen or heard.
  • While I know that you didn’t intentionally try to hur me, I want to be clear now and get your side of the story so that we can both feel heard.
  • I’m not okay with what you did and I don’t want that in my life.
  • I’m feeling disappointed and caught off guard with <the thing you’re disappointed about>. I’m hoping you can help me better understand the situation.
  • I hope you can understand why I feel this way.
  • I know you didn’t think it would be a big deal, but please understand that’s not how I’m feeling about it in this moment.
